Room 23 Reptile Group

For this term the year 6 class room 23 reptile group has been studying about lizards and skinks. We have found out that the lizard population has been going down. So we have investigated how lizards adapt to their environment and observe their behaviour in order to increase their population.

Our social action is to rebuild the lizard garden on the field. We have put some plans in place and are hoping to rebuild the lizard garden next term.

Kaitiaki Kids Planting Day

On Friday the Kaitiaki Kids went to the Tūpuna Maunga Planting Day at Ōhuiarangi / Pigeon Mountain. We thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck in and planting some native plants in our wetlands with some other schools in our community. Thanks to Tina and Lisa for being our parent helpers!

There is a community planting day on the 26th of July from 10:00am till 1:00pm for all those who are interested.

Kaitiaki Kids take on the worm farm

The Kaitiaki Kids spent their lunchtime and most of the last block cleaning out the worm farm. It had become very clogged due to some plastic that had been put in the bin. We found a tuna can, a pencil sharpener, pie wrappers and lots of other plastic in the bin.

We took some castings from the worm farm and put them on our veggie gardens. We might use the veggie gardens to grow some awesome veggies to cook, but also to share with the community.

Room 29 Inquiry Lesson on Earthquakes

In terms of inquiry, this term's focus is "We Are Survivors"!  We will learn about natural disasters including earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and tornadoes. How they happen, what damages they can do and what can we do to be safe.

2021 Kaitiaki Kids explore Eye on Nature

The Kaitiaki Kids were invited to attend Auckland Council's Eye on Nature fun day at the Botanic Gardens. The theme this year was mai nga maunga ki te moana, ko te wai te oranga, from the mountains to the sea, water is life.

We had a great day visiting the Gardens and learning lots about the importance of our sea life. Here are some photos from our day.
